The annual King’s Day (or Koningsdag) celebrations sweep the Netherlands on the last Saturday in April each year. (It’s the official, rather than actual, birthday of the monarch—currently, King Willem-Alexander.) King's Day is an all-day party. Festivities start with street parties the evening before, and continue the next day with markets and delicious food. “The Valley of the Sun,” is a well-deserved nickname for the Greater Phoenix area that also includes Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, and Chandler. The desert has temperatures in the high 70’s and even low 80’s during spring break time making it perfect to be outdoors, particularly in the usual crazy hot desert.
Lounge by a pool, go fishing or boating in one of the area’s lakes, take a kayak or stand up paddle board on the Salt River, or go shopping. There are also restaurants, bars, pubs, night clubs, and music venues. Stay at beautiful hotels or take in one of the area's incredible and relaxing spas.
Glacier Bay, Alaska
If you love whale watching or want to take an Alaska cruise, spring is a great time to visit Glacier Bay. Spring is feeding season for whales in the more than three-million-acre national park just outside Juneau: The gray whales arrive first in late April, followed by minkes, orcas, and humpbacks in May. So, if you love to watch sea life, this is a great time to go to Alaska.
Savannah is known for its antebellum architecture, historic cobblestone squares, and Spanish moss. All of that gives this pretty town a storybook feel. There are old-meets-new destinations to visit in the spring. There are coffee shops and restaurants galore. So if you are looking for a traditional hotel like the Hamilton Turner Inn or a nice Hyatt, you have options in Savannah in the springtime.
Monaco is the world's smallest county and is a wonderful option to visit in the spring. A great time to go is before the Grand Prix, when the springtime temperatures are lovely, there are markets, and smaller crowds Monaco is beautiful year-round. Travelers can try out the elegant Monte Carlo Casino or Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, explore the luxury shopping, view the yachts, or relax on the beautiful beaches.
